I may have to fire my Quality Manager
I once worked at a company with a really conservative IT manager. Cybersecurity was his thing. In his head, hackers were everywhere, and he saw it as his responsibility to protect the company and its customers from attack after attack after attack. The result: a very safe IT policy. Also the result: a slow, old-fashioned way of serving our customers.
Why am I telling you this? Because it reminds me of my current Quality Manager, also known as my Inner critic. He’s… a handful, and lately I’ve been considering just firing him.
Unfortunately it isn’t possible to fire a part of our brain. So I’m going to have to find a way to deal with his unsolicited advice, his “risk analyses”, and the doom scenarios for my future that keep me awake at night.
If you have any tips on how to handle difficult employees, please let me know. I’m getting pretty tired of his antics...
