Not a multitasker
I am not a multitasking person. Can’t even drive with the radio playing. My highest level of multitasking is eating chocolate while watching a movie.
That’s why I haven’t send a newsletter for a month, and why I have been very quiet on social media.
I have been preparing my exhibition. ‘Between the lines’, it’s called, or ‘Tussen de regels door’ in Dutch. It will consist of 50 portraits of writers. So far I have about 42. No idea how I did that in two months. Well, except for the not-multitasking thing, that is.
When I promised the head librarian of the Diepenbeek public library to create a collection of that many paintings, I had no idea how I would approach a project of that size. The largest coherent collection of paintings I had created consists of nine small pieces. I just hoped I wouldn’t get tired of it after seven portraits…
I didn’t get tired after seven writers, nor after twenty, thirty or forty. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I’m sure in the months to come I’ll even regret not having thought of some authors.
I’m looking forward to adding the finishing touches, and to signing all of them. Even more I’m looking forward to see them hanging in the library, surrounded by books and readers, where they are supposed to be. And I’d really love it to see you there…
(The opening date of the exhibition hasn’t been decided yet, but don’t worry: I’ll let you know.)
