Coming up: my dream exhibition

As an artist I’m often told to dream big, and to believe in my art. I try to do that, but last week I had a conversation I never thought to have in the coming ten years. It was epic.

“What is your dream exhibition?”, Rita asked me, right in the beginning of our meeting.
I knew she liked my work, but, as a recovering people pleaser, I was trying to find out what exactly she liked about it, and which pieces. I didn’t expect to be asked what I wanted.

Of course I have a dream exhibition: plenty (like a lot!) of abstract portraits, of my favorite writers. I have always loved reading, you see.
Now Rita happens to be the head librarian of a public library. And an avid reader too. And… the organizing force behind several exhibitions a year in said library.
So, hesitating at first, but getting more excited by the minute, I described my dream exhibition.
She loved it. I mean, she didn’t even ask me to adapt the concept one tiny bit. She was just as happy about the idea as I am.

So around April of 2023 I’m getting my dream exhibition. The only thing I have to do now is paint about fifty portraits, and I can’t wait to get started.

PS: Who is your favorite writer, poet, novelist? I’d love to include those too.
